Course Prospectus
-
Experienced Design Thinking facilitators who are seeking a higher level of proficiency and would like to move beyond the standard set of tools and techniques will benefit from this course.
People attend from the UK and elsewhere, from corporates, professional services, independent consultancies, start-ups, government and academic institutions.
This is a natural progression from our Design Thinking Facilitation course. However, attendance at a Design Thinkers Academy course is not a prerequisite. Contact us if you would like to check the levels of experience needed to get the best from this course.
Advance your facilitation practice and enhance your Design Thinking toolkit. With personal coaching and peer feedback throughout, you’ll learn how to:
- Get the most out of participants’ contributions by understanding dynamics and steering interactions
- Apply advanced methods and techniques to your own context and personal projects
- Constructively assess your personal facilitation technique and identify concrete steps to accelerate development and mastery
- Create specialist, tailor-made tools for advanced sessions
-
Day 1: THEORY AND REFLECTION
Day one starts with exercises that help you reveal insights about yourself, your participants and your teams. You’ll reflect on a combination of your own style and the styles of others. You’ll discover how to enhance team members’ core qualities and respond to their learning style preferences. You’ll also learn how to understand and guide the team formation process. The theory will be brought to life through direct application to your ‘live’ personal project and the coaches will help you troubleshoot some of the challenges you face as a Design Thinking facilitator.
-
Day 2: PRACTICE AND DEVELOPMENT
Day two provides an opportunity for you to facilitate a session of your own. This is filmed, providing you with the opportunity to self-assess in tandem with valuable peer feedback. You’ll learn how to create specialist, tailor-made tools and will also pick up tips and tricks from your peers’ sessions. Our expert coaches guide you through a self-development exercise and personal planning session so you leave the course with a concrete, actionable roadmap.

Q. What safety precautions will be taken in regards to Covid-19?
A.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have made a number of changes to how our in-person courses will be run. This means smaller groups taking part from our own studio in South London in a controlled environment. Our studio space in an ex-factory with high ceilings and good natural light. It can be accessed via the District Line, which runs above ground in this part of London, and is located in a quiet area where streets and public transport are very rarely crowded.

Q. What is the difference between our Design Thinking Facilitation and Facilitation Mastery courses?
A.
Design Thinking Facilitation is suitable for people who have experience in applying Design Thinking to their innovation projects and are familiar with using the main Design Thinking tools. It has been developed for professionals who are beginning to facilitate Design Thinking workshops or lead group sessions.
Facilitation Mastery has been developed for Design Thinking practitioners who are already experienced at running workshops and want to hone their facilitation techniques to a more advanced level. You will learn more about group dynamics, learning styles, advanced Design Thinking tools and have the opportunity to create your own tools. You will also receive more personal support on this course.
